Description

Deliciously soft and chewy red velvet cookies coated in powdered sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla extract and red food coloring until evenly combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until no flour streaks remain. Dough will be soft and sticky.
  6. Cover dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Coat generously in powdered sugar.
  8. Place cookies 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for 3–5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
