A deliciously seared ribeye steak, seasoned simply with salt and pepper and finished with butter and fresh herbs.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ribeye steak (12 oz)
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
Instructions
- Preheat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
- Pat the ribeye dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Add olive oil to the skillet, swirling to coat evenly.
- Sear the steak for 4 minutes without moving it to create a crust.
- Flip the steak gently with tongs, add butter and herbs around it, then cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
- Baste the steak with melted butter before removing it from the skillet.
Notes
- For best results, let the steak come to room temperature before cooking.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.
- Rest the steak for a few minutes before slicing to retain juices.
