Description
Delicious steak toasts topped with garlic butter, fresh salsa, and optional garnishes for a flavorful appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz thinly sliced sirloin or flank steak
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil (for searing)
- 1/2 cup fresh or store-bought salsa
- optional diced jalapeños or hot sauce (for spicy kick)
- optional splash of lime juice to brighten salsa
- about 8 slices ½-inch thick slices of crusty baguette or rustic sourdough
- optional ciabatta or crostini rounds
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro or parsley
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella, queso fresco, cheddar, or pepper jack
- optional sliced avocado or guacamole, for creaminess
- optional thinly sliced red chili or dollop of sour cream for garnish
Instructions
- Season the thinly sliced steak with salt, pepper, and a splash of lime juice. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for 2-3 minutes per side until it reaches your preferred doneness. Remove from heat, let it rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly for layering on the toasts.
- While the steak cooks, melt butter in a small pan over low heat. Stir in finely minced garlic and cook gently until fragrant and lightly golden. Avoid burning the garlic. This garlic butter will be brushed on the bread slices.
- Slice the bread into ½-inch thick pieces. Brush both sides generously with the garlic butter. Toast the bread under the broiler or in a hot pan until golden and crispy on the edges.
- Spread a layer of fresh salsa evenly over each toasted bread slice. Add the thinly sliced steak on top. If using cheese, sprinkle it over the steak and return to the broiler for about a minute to melt the cheese slightly.
- Finish each toast with a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs and an optional squeeze of lime juice. Add optional garnishes like sliced red chili or sour cream if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure not to burn the garlic in the butter for the best flavor.
- Optional garnishes can enhance the flavor and presentation of the dish.
