Description

A delicious Southern Praline Bread Pudding that’s easy to prepare and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (such as French or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Additional pecans for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Bread: Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  3. Mix Custard: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread. Gently fold to ensure all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  5. Add Pecans: Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  6. Transfer to Dish: Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  7. Drizzle Caramel: Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the top of the bread pudding.
  8. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool: Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will help it set and make it easier to slice.
  10. Serve Warm: Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce on top before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.

Notes

  • This bread pudding can be made with any type of bread you prefer, but day-old bread works best for texture.
  • For a richer flavor, consider adding chocolate chips or dried fruit.
