Description

This monkey bread is a delicious and easy-to-make treat, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tubes (8-count each) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar (packed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a 12-cup Bundt pan very well with cooking spray, or grease and flour the pan; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, add the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whisk to combine; set aside momentarily.
  3. Open each of the two tubes of refrigerated cinnamon roll dough. Separate all the cinnamon rolls (you should have 16 total) and dice each into quarters to form bite-sized pieces. Reserve the glaze that came in the tubes for after baking.
  4. In a gallon-sized ziptop plastic bag, add the dough pieces, sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the dough, seal the bag, and shake to evenly distribute and coat.
  5. Turn the coated dough out into the prepared pan, layering it lightly (do not pack or smoosh) and evenly around the pan. If using optional nuts, sprinkle them in as you’re layering.
  6. In a small bowl, add the melted butter and to it, add the maple syrup, brown sugar, and whisk to combine.
  7. Evenly pour the buttery sauce mixture over the dough in the prepared pan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the perimeter.
  8. Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, rotating the pan once midway through baking. Check after about 25 minutes.
  9. Allow the monkey bread to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before inverting it onto a serving platter.
  10. Warm the two glaze containers and drizzle over the top of the monkey bread before serving immediately.

Notes

  • It’s important to spray the pan very generously to prevent sticking later on.
  • For best results, use a Bundt pan.
  • The warmer the butter, the easier it combines with the sugars.
  • Start checking the baking time after about 25 minutes, as ovens vary.
